The Foreign Language Network provides three sets of curriculum each year in Spanish, French, and German. Each set of curriculum focuses on a different theme. Our "theme-based" curriculum is one in which during each session, students learn vocabulary and other language skills related to a particular subject matter. For every session that a child is enrolled in our program, their vocabulary and conversational skills will continue to grow and improve. Students never repeat the same subject matter. However, since ongoing reinforcement of vocabulary and concepts is essential when learning a foreign language, we do utilize reinforcement of basic concepts throughout our program. Our curriculum meets State and National Board of Education requirements for foreign language instruction. The Foreign Language Network teachers use TPR methods to keep students interested and motivated. Our materials include a workbook and CD for each student as well as many visual, audio and tactile aids in the classroom. Every 10 weeks, children will receive a new workbook and CD. Our workbooks contain pronunciation guides and translations so parents can assist their children even if they don't speak the language themselves. The CD's include songs that feature vocabulary from every lesson, making the learning experience fun and effortless, which ultimately helps children retain the vocabulary they are learning in class. Workbook Our workbooks contain vocabulary with pronunciation guides and translations so parents can assist their children, even if they don't speak the language themselves. Flashcards are included with the workbook to assist with practicing at home. For older students, we also provide a grammar worksheet packet that introduces verb conjugations and other important grammar rules. CD's Our CD's include songs that feature vocabulary from each lesson, making the learning experience fun and effortless which ultimately helps children retain the vocabulary they are learning. A song book and translation guide is included in the workbook. Lesson Plans Our teaching methods are TPR based so our lesson plans contain hands-on activities to reinforce the vocabulary being taught. Lesson plans contain detailed instructions for reinforcement of basic language skills (numbers, colors, common phrases, etc.), activities for reviewing previous vocabulary, teaching new vocabulary, and song activities. Lesson plans include a game appendix, flashcards, 8-1/2" x 11" full color vocabulary posters, and a bingo game.
